Product announcement: DeductAble 3.0 is the biggest update yet to DeductAble, the donation tracker and ItsDeductible replacement with an iPhone app and a web app for iPad and other devices. It makes the app you already know better in five ways: an AI assistant that understands what you mean, batch import of up to 20 photos, receipts, or lists at once, values and exports you can trust, smarter EIN lookup, and a cleaner, more intuitive app on every screen. It is out today on the App Store and at app.deductable.ai.

If you already use DeductAble, update the app and sign in on the web as usual. Your donations, organizations, and history are exactly where you left them.

An AI assistant that understands you

The assistant was already the fastest way into DeductAble. In 3.0 it runs on a more capable model and follows what you mean, not just what you typed. Describe what you gave the way you would say it, like “three shirts and two pairs of jeans to Goodwill,” snap the bag before you drop it off, or hand it your receipts. AI identifies each item and matches it to a fair market value from our catalog that you review and approve.

What is better in 3.0:

  • It keeps your words. The item you called “my old parka” stays “my old parka”, and the assistant shows which catalog entry priced it instead of renaming it.
  • You fix the draft by talking. Say “actually four shirts” or “remove the lamp” and it updates the draft in place, with a Yes/No check when it is unsure.
  • It adds to a donation you already saved. Tell it to add items to yesterday’s donation, or attach a photo mid-conversation, and it joins that draft instead of starting a duplicate.
  • It never records $0. When the catalog cannot price something, the assistant asks you for a value, and everyday words like “sneakers” or “mug” now find a catalog price.
  • It reads a whole stack at once. Up to 20 photos, receipts, or lists in one go; see batch import below.
  • It keeps you moving. Text replies arrive in about two seconds, a summary bar above the composer shows the running draft, and buttons like Finalize, Undo, Set date, and Add organization follow every reply.

New in 3.0: ask it how to use the app

The same assistant now answers questions about DeductAble itself, like “how do I export for TurboTax?” Ask from Ask the Assistant in the menu, from the ✦ button, or from the button on an empty home screen. It replaces the old Support Chat and the guided App Tour, and you can still reach us with Send Feedback in the menu.

Values and exports you can trust

Your deduction is only as good as the numbers behind it. Every item is valued from our catalog by condition, and you approve each value before it is saved.

  • Condition-correct prices. A “Good” item now gets the Good price, every time, and the catalog browser shows both the Good and the Excellent value on every row, so you see what each condition is worth before you choose.
  • No nonsense amounts. Values like “$10 to $20” are rejected before they reach your records instead of silently becoming something else.

Reports & Export now works in two steps: pick a scope, then a format. The scope is all years, one tax year, or whatever filter you have on, and every format shows how many donations it will contain before you export.

Choose a tax year, then a format. Each export says what it carries; here TXF notes that one mileage donation is left out.
  • PDF produces a year-end summary, ready for your preparer, and on Premium it adds a Form 8283 worksheet when your non-cash donations exceed $500. Our Form 8283 instructions explain when you need it.
  • CSV gives you a spreadsheet.
  • TXF (Premium) imports into TurboTax Desktop. It says up front how many donations it carries and that mileage is not included, with a short “before importing into TurboTax” guide and a confirmation that tells you where the file went.

You can also get a receipt straight from the edit form: share it on iPhone, download it on the web.

Find the right organization the first time

A deduction needs the right charity. In 3.0, Add Organization opens with a name box and a State menu. Type a name and pick a state: every result comes from the IRS list of tax-exempt organizations, with its city and EIN on every row. Not listed? Search by address. Charities are now called Organizations everywhere: on the page, in every picker, and in your exports.

  • Every result shows its EIN. Search Goodwill in California and you see each local Goodwill with its city and EIN, so you pick the one you actually gave to.
  • One search and sort in every picker. Choosing an organization works the same way everywhere, and the iPhone list gains a search bar.
  • Not listed? Search by address. If the IRS list doesn’t have it, fall back to a map and address search.
  • The assistant asks when a draft has no organization, with an Add organization button right in the conversation.

You can still verify any organization’s tax-exempt status against IRS Publication 78, see your total with each one, and connect a local thrift store to its regional or national parent.

A cleaner, more intuitive app

Less clutter, simpler navigation, and simpler forms with the organization, date and total pinned at the top. Add catalog items in one tap, keep donation details in view, and resume where you left off. These are improvements to the app you already know; here is where you will notice them.

Adding a donation

  • Every form pins the organization, date and total in one line at the top; your items, amount or miles fill the rest. Save sits at the top right.
  • The pinned line keeps the organization, date, and total on screen while you add items, and you edit items in place.
  • A rebuilt catalog. It labels which value is Good and which is Excellent on every row — 2.7 showed two bare numbers — adds an item in one tap instead of expanding the row first, reprices it when you change its condition, and shows how many you have already added. On desktop it docks beside the form instead of covering it, with an add-item bar that stays in view as you scroll, and goods lists group by category.
  • One ✦ Add with AI pill and one + start a donation on every device, desktop included.
  • Leave a donation half finished and it waits on your home screen with a Resume button.
DeductAble 2.7 goods form: a Charity dropdown and a Date field fill the top of the form, the Items box below is empty and reads “No items yet”, and the catalog is hidden behind a Browse Catalog button
Before, in 2.7: an empty Items box, and the catalog hidden behind a button.
DeductAble 3.0 goods form with two items added: Baby Bib at $3.00 and Booster Seat at $11.00 grouped under Baby & Kids Gear, the Booster Seat row expanded to show an Excellent $14.00 and Good $11.00 toggle with quantity and value, a pinned $14.00 total, and the catalog open beside it showing Good and Excellent values and 1 added badges
After, in 3.0: organization, date and total sit in one pinned line at the top, and you edit items in place below — the condition toggle shows what each condition is worth. The catalog stays open beside the form, marks what you have already added, and adds the next item in one tap.

Finding things

  • Donations are grouped by year.
  • One menu holds Settings, Organizations, Reports & Export, Import, and Support.

Less friction

  • Confirmations and errors appear at the top of the screen and never cover Save or Add.
  • Error messages say what happened in plain words, and lists show placeholder rows while they load instead of a spinner.
  • Every long-press and ⋯ menu looks the same and uses one icon set; swipe to delete a goods item on iPhone.
  • The keyboard dismisses when you tap outside it, everywhere.

On iPhone

Donations grouped by year, with the ✦ Add with AI button always in reach.
  • No navigation bar: screens open with a large title that collapses into a compact header as you scroll.
  • Capsule buttons, one sheet style, and larger small text.
  • If you have been using the app without signing in, it now offers once to back up your donations to an account.
  • The iPhone app still works offline and syncs when you are back online.

On the web

On iPad, open app.deductable.ai in Safari for a full-screen experience and sign in with the same account. All your donations are there. The App Store app is designed for iPhone and opens in a phone-sized window on iPad; the web app requires an internet connection.

The desktop web app: one grouped sidebar, a wider donation list, and a totals column that stays in view.
  • The blue top bar is gone. One grouped sidebar holds Donations, AI Assistant, and Organizations, then Import & Export, then Support, and the Donations page has a totals column that stays put as you scroll.
  • At phone width, the web app follows the iPhone app: a drawer menu, the same year-grouped dashboard, and the same floating entry pill.
  • Attachments open as a bottom sheet on phones, iOS Safari no longer zooms into fields, and the plan and price appear before you reach checkout.

And DeductAble has a new look, down to a new logo in the iPhone app and on the web, including Safari on iPad.

Bring your donation history from anywhere

Batch import is the fastest way to catch up on a year of giving. Hand the assistant up to 20 photos, receipts, PDFs, handwritten lists, or spreadsheet screenshots at once. It reads them together, groups what it finds into donations (one per organization and date), and shows each one as a card you review and start with one tap. Nothing is saved until you approve it, and on Premium the original files can be attached to the donation.

Two other ways in:

  • Moving from ItsDeductible? Open Import from the app menu, choose Migrating from ItsDeductible?, and upload your CSV, ZIP, or Excel (XLSX) export, one file per tax year. Any row that cannot be imported is listed by organization, date, and row number, so nothing disappears silently. Our ItsDeductible migration guide walks through it.
  • Any other spreadsheet? Use the CSV template under Import.

What did not change

  • Pricing. Free for up to 5 donations. Premium is $19.99 per year for unlimited donations, TXF export, and priority support.
  • Your values. Values still come from our catalog, not from the AI. The AI identifies and matches; you approve.
  • Your data. One account, real-time sync between the iPhone app and the web app, including Safari on iPad, and you can export or delete everything at any time.

Frequently asked questions

What’s new in DeductAble 3.0?

DeductAble 3.0 improves the app you already know: an AI assistant that understands what you mean and fixes a draft when you correct it, batch import of up to 20 photos, receipts, or lists at once, smarter EIN lookup, and a cleaner, more intuitive app for iPhone and the web, including Safari on iPad. The one brand-new capability is asking the assistant how to use the app.

Can DeductAble import receipts, photos, and handwritten lists?

Yes. Hand the AI assistant up to 20 photos, receipts, PDFs, handwritten lists, or spreadsheet screenshots at once. It reads them together, groups them into donations, and lets you review each one before it is saved. On Premium, the original files can also be attached to the donation record.

Does DeductAble 3.0 cost more?

No. DeductAble is still free for up to 5 donations, and Premium is still $19.99 per year for unlimited donations, TXF export for TurboTax Desktop, and priority support.

Will I lose my donations when I update to DeductAble 3.0?

No. Your donations, organizations, and history stay exactly where they were. Update the iPhone app from the App Store, or open app.deductable.ai in any browser and sign in as usual.

Does the AI decide what my donations are worth?

No. AI identifies each item and matches it to a fair market value from our catalog that you review and approve. When the catalog has no match, the assistant asks you for a value instead of recording $0.
